What are the standards for child support?

Following changes to Illinois law that took effect in July 2017, child support is calculated by determining the amount of support necessary to care for a couple's children based on their combined net income. This amount is then divided between the parents, taking each parent's net income into account, as well as their respective amount of parental responsibility and parenting time. Child support payments may be modified if warranted by the situation. Usually, modification requires a showing of a "change in circumstances".
